Common solutions to crashing scenarios

Okino's software development team has always placed #1 priority on fixing crashing problems with our software. This has lead to very stable and clean software releases. For stable software releases the most common problems that lead to crashes are buggy video drivers or mismatched software DLLs.

This section provides common answers to issues relating to the import, optimization and export of 3D file formats.

When I convert a file I do not get the results I expect. What is happening?
What is the best format for importing or exporting 3d data?
When I export a file to 3DS MAX or DirectX some of the polygons are missing in the rendered model yet the same model looks fine when rendered with Lightwave. What is wrong?

Generic Usage and Runtime Questions

This section provides answers to questions that don't fall into any other FAQ category, usually relating to generic usage or runtime questions.

Are there any limitations to the NuGraf or PolyTrans software such as the number of lights/cameras/surfaces/textures or the number of objects in a scene?
NuGraf or PolyTrans won't import materials and textures from a Wavefront OBJ file exported from Alias PowerAnimator.
An Okino export converter reported an error that it could not locate a texture bitmap for conversion.
How do I view error, warning or statistic information output by the program or its converters?
How do I solve an "Out of Memory" condition?

Rendering and Usage Issues for NuGraf

This section contains questions and answers about Okino's NuGraf software, mainly dealing with rendering and user interface issues.

How do I solve an "Out of Memory" condition?
How do I view error, warning or statistic information output by the program or its converters?
What is the secret to making realistic images?
Why do anti-aliased images take longer to render than non-anti-aliased images?
My rendered images have jagged edges in some locations. What is wrong?
Are there any limitations to the NuGraf software such as the maximum size of an image, the level of antialiasing, the number of lights/cameras/surfaces/textures or the number of objects in a scene?

"PolyTrans-for-3DSMAX" plug-in support questions.

Every copy of Okino's NuGraf & PolyTrans software come bundled with a special plug-in system for 3DS MAX. These plug-ins allow 3DS MAX to import and export all of the supported Okino 3D file formats from within the 3DS MAX user interface.

I cannot get my PolyTrans-for-MAX (or 3DS VIZ) plug-ins to execute.
Where can I find information about importing CAD files into 3DS MAX?
Can the PolyTrans-for-MAX plug-in system be used within 3DS VIZ?
Do you support bidirectional animation conversion within 3ds max?
Do you support skinning (skeleton deformations) to/from 3ds max?
I upgraded to a new version of 3DS MAX and now the PolyTrans plug-ins do not work.
Why must I own a copy of 3DS MAX to have PolyTrans/NuGraf handle the .max file format?
Do you still support 3DS MAX 1.2, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0?
My models exported from 3DS MAX using the Discreet .3ds exporter are "exploded" all over the place.
My textured objects look wrong when exported from 3DS MAX.

"PolyTrans-for-Maya" plug-in support questions.

This group provides common answers to questions about Okino's PolyTrans-for-Maya plug-in system. This native plug-in system for Maya allows all of the PolyTrans 3D file formats to be executed directly inside the Maya user interface. A good product overview can be found by clicking here.

I cannot get my PolyTrans-for-Maya plug-ins to execute.
Where can I find information about importing CAD files into Maya?
Importing a models into Maya which have a large number of polygons takes forever. What is wrong?
How do I add a icon on my shelf to execute PolyTrans-for-Maya?
Do you support bidirectional animation conversion within Maya?
Do you support skinning (skeleton deformations) to/from Maya?
No camera animation data is being imported.
Imported animation has different keyframe values from the source 3D program, or there is jitter.
Can I export animated NULL hierarchies from Maya to MAX?
Can I use PolyTrans-for-Maya while running the Maya command line version?
Can I perform batch conversions or use MEL scripting with PolyTrans-for-Maya?

Issues relating to conversions of 'Animation, Mesh Skinning & Skeletons (Bones)'

A major aspect of Okino's PolyTrans software in the DCC market segment is our conversion of animation, skeletons (bones) and mesh skinning. We have much experience in this area of DCC based conversions and some of our internal FAQs are listed below.

No bones appear in Lightwave from data coming from Maya
A Maya skeleton imported into 3DS MAX looks odd.
Some animation does not appear to export to the .bdf file format from MAX. Why?
How do I convert scene data, animation, skinning, skeletons, etc. between MAX and Maya?
No animation and/or skinning is converting between MAX and Maya

Softimage & XSI File Format Conversion Questions

The SoftImage converters in Okino's PolyTrans & NuGraf have been some of the most popular converters since their release in 1996. This FAQ group covers some of the issues that have arose over the years. For information about these converters please refer to the SoftImage import and export converters WEB pages.

Do you support envelopes (skeleton deformations) to/from XSI?
Do you support bidirectional animation conversion using the dotXSI file format?
Why don't texture maps look correct with NURBS objects exported from SoftImage?
I do not own a copy of SoftImage. Can I read .hrc or database files myself using PolyTrans?
How can I transfer data automatically between SoftImage or XSI and Maya?

IGES File Format Conversion Questions

This section details common answers to questions relating to the import, display and export of IGES files.
