V4 Plug-Ins 'Super Installer' for 3ds Max, VIZ, Maya, XSI & Director

Currently Supported Plug-In Versions

• 3ds Max 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, 2008 (v10), 2009 (v11) (and VIZ 5, 6, 7, 8, 2008). VIZ is now officially discontinued by Autodesk.
• Maya 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 8.0, 8.5, 2008
• XSI 6 or newer (older versions may still work with the plug-in). NOTE: the 3D conversions always use the dotXSI file format and do not relate at all to the XSI product version itself.
• Macromedia Director 8.5 or newer.

!! Please Note !! These native plug-in modules require that the demo version of NuGraf or PolyTrans (stand-alone) be installed first (see above).

	To download the demo version of these plug-ins modules click on the "Download Now" button. You will be presented with an Installshield wizard to the select the components and plug-ins you need before the final download begins.

A pivotal aspect of the Okino software for many of our users are the PolyTrans-for-MAX and PolyTrans-for-Maya native plug-in systems. These are two of the most professional, longest developed and well supported 3D converter plug-in systems for 3ds Max and Maya. These modules allow 3ds Max (as well as Viz) and Maya to directly import/export all of the Okino supported file formats from within their respective user interfaces. Other common uses of the plug-in systems is for bidirectional 3ds-max/Maya conversions (via the Okino .bdf file format), import & optimization of large CAD datasets from all major 3D CAD packages & file formats, import/export to all 3D gaming file formats (including skinned mesh and skeleton conversions), OpenFlight VisSim conversions, and of course bidirectional conversions to most other 3D file formats and software packages (from Lightwave, to Softimage-3D, to Softimage-XSI, VRML2, DirectX and dozens more).

Version 4 Okino software also comes with special plug-in modules for Softimage|XSI and Macromedia Director. PolyTrans-for-XSI shows all of the supported Okino import/export file formats within the XSI user interface, and acts as a "manager" to have the stand-alone PolyTrans or NuGraf programs convert 3D files to/from the dotXSI file format (in a hidden server manner) by way of the PolyTrans!ProServer COM interface. Likewise, PolyTrans-for-Director lists all of the Okino import file formats within the Macromedia Director user interface, and acts as a "manager" to have the stand-alone PolyTrans or NuGraf programs convert 3D files to the Shockwave-3D .w3d file format (in a hidden server manner) by way of the PolyTrans!ProServer COM interface. Thus, these are considered "convenience" plug-in systems since they allow dotXSI or .w3d file conversions to occur relative to the user interfaces of XSI or Director, and not by running the stand-alone NuGraf/PolyTrans programs by human means. This differs from PolyTrans-for-MAX and PolyTrans-for-Maya which are highly integrated versions of Okino converter technology inside these respective programs, and which have taken up to 7 years of continual work to create.

Quick Usage Info for 3ds Max, Maya, XSI and Director Plug-ins

During installation of the native 3ds Max, Maya, XSI and Director plug-ins you will be presented with options to show the online 'help' file and installation 'info' documents about each of them. At the very least, keep the 'View Info File' check boxes enabled and then review the documents when they appear.

To summarize how to use these plug-in modules:

• [3ds Max]
  • Go to the "Utility" panel section of 3ds Max (right side).
  • Find and enable the "PolyTrans I/O Converters" entry in the utility panel list of plug-in modules. Drag & drop that new item to a utility panel button.
  • Click on the "PolyTrans I/O Converters" button in the utility panel.
  • PolyTrans will now run completely embedded within 3ds Max.
  
  
  
• [Maya]
  • Enable the 'ptio.mll' plug-in within the Maya plug-in manager (Window/Settings&Preferences/Plug-In Manager).
  • Optionally install an icon on the Maya command shelf (pt_icon.bmp).
  • Type 'pt' on the Maya command line to start up PolyTrans. panel.
  • PolyTrans will now run completely embedded within Maya.
  
  
  
• [XSI]
  • New menu items will appear in the File/Import and File/Export menus, named "PolyTrans". PolyTrans-for-XSI uses the Okino PolyTrans!ProServer COM interface to have the stand-alone PolyTrans or NuGraf perform conversions to/from the dotXSI file format. The PolyTrans-for-XSI interface inside XSI acts as the 'manager' of this overall conversion process. If you don't or can't use the special PolyTrans-for-XSI plug-in then just perform the conversions using the dotXSI file format in the stand-alone PolyTrans/NuGraf programs.
  
  
  
• [Macromedia Director]
  • A new menu item will appear in the 'Xtras' menu named 'PolyTrans'. PolyTrans-for-Director uses the Okino PolyTrans!ProServer COM interface to have the stand-alone PolyTrans or NuGraf perform conversions to/from the Shockwave-3D file format. The dedicated PolyTrans-for-Director interface inside Director acts as the 'manager' of this overall conversion process. If you don't or can't use the PolyTrans-for-Director plug-in then just perform the conversions using the Shockwave-3D file format in the stand-alone PolyTrans/NuGraf programs.

Additional (Optional) Component Libraries to be Downloaded & Installed

• [Autodesk Inventor CAD File Import] If you wish to import Autodesk Inventor CAD files, and you do not have a full copy of Autodesk Inventor or VolvoView installed on your computer, then you will need to download and install the 'Inventor Apprentice' runtime COM server system from the Autodesk WEB site. This is now available by downloading and installing the 'Inventor View' application from this permanent Autodesk link.
  
  
• [Most Recent Version of Microsoft DirectX] Okino's NuGraf and PolyTrans utilize the Microsoft DirectX runtime libraries to add additional 2D bitmap and 3D video file support to the programs, especially to the Okino multi-media editor and viewer. • [Most Recent Version of Apple's QuickTime] Okino's NuGraf and PolyTrans utilize the Apple QuickTime runtime libraries to add additional 2D bitmap and 3D video file support, as well as support for importing Flash files, to the programs, especially to the Okino multi-media editor and viewer. Integration with Popular Multimedia Authoring Tools

Okino has actively partnered with dozens of 3D software companies to integrate the PolyTrans 3D data conversion software and technology into each of their respective products. Special plug-ins and "connectors" are available commercially from these well known companies:

• NGRAIN Corp. Their "3KO" exporter is now included with each Okino software installation.
  
  
• Act-3D Corp. Okino and Act-3D have partnered to integrate the PolyTrans 3D data conversion software into the Quest3D product. If Quest3D and your licensed copy of PolyTrans are placed on the same computer then all of the Okino licensed converters will automatically show up inside of the Quest3D user interface. However, the special Quest3D exporter module will first have to be placed into the PolyTrans "vcplugin" directory (please refer to the Quest3D documentation).
  
  
• CATS "Pytha" Software. A dual set of import/export converter modules allow the CATS "Pytha" software to access the Okino PolyTrans 3D conversion technology. Please contact CATS for further information.
  
  
• Dassault Systemes' Virtools. The "4DC" exporter plug-in system for Okino products allows for direct export of data to the Virtools .nmo 3D file format. Please contact their development partner, Realicon, for more information.
  
  
• MAXON Computer. Their "Engineering Bundle" is a combination of Cinema-4D and Okino's PolyTrans + Dual-CAD-Granite/Pack, which includes their special Maxon-Okino connector software. The equivalent conversion can be done by running the stand-alone Okino NuGraf or PolyTrans program, importing the desired file, and re-exporting to Lightwave .lws or Wavefront OBJ file formats.
  
  
• Visual Components. Their connector system allows Okino 3D CAD and DCC file formats to be converted into the Visual Components "3DCreate" software. Please contact Visual Components for licensing information.
  
  
• EON Reality has had select PolyTrans components included in their software packages since 1997.

How to Un-Install the Windows-Based Demo Products

To un-install the demo version of NuGraf/PolyTrans, select the "Uninstall" item from the START menu for 'PolyTrans' or 'NuGraf', or do the same from the "Add/Remove" control panel applet.

To un-install the demo version of the Okino Plug-Ins Super Installer, select the "Uninstall" item from the START menu for 'Okino Plug-Ins Super Installer', or do the same from the "Add/Remove" control panel applet.

If you receive a -1612 error during un-installation of an existing Okino product then simply execute the following text on a DOS command line or via the "Run.." menu entry on the START button:

msiexec /uninstall {guid} REINSTALLMODE="" REINSTALL=""

You need to replace {guid} with one of the following strings:

	Okino plug-Ins super installer, demo version
		{4DE79189-E5DD-49A0-914F-E40919AAB597} 
	Combined NuGraf/PolyTrans demo installer
		{A21684A9-64C9-4714-AF1D-15D9C8CE5EBF} 
        

If the command line execution reports an error, you will need to upgrade to Microsoft Windows MSI Installer v3 or newer. Go to http://www.microsoft.com and search for this file to download: WindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe".

Download the Silicon Graphics IRIX Demo Version

NOTE: The SGI IRIX version does not have a number of the Windows-based converters such as: 3ds Max plug-ins, Maya plug-ins, ACIS SAT, Solid Edge import and SolidWorks import, Viewpoint exporter, VRML1 and VRML2 importers. The IRIX version of PolyTrans was developed and supported from 1988 through to 2001. We can no longer support this version since IRIX is more or less a dead operating system, unfortunately. Nevertheless, the 2001 release of PolyTrans/IRIX is still a very stable release and very good for IGES, OpenFlight, Softimage-3D and other military uses.

To download and install the command-line based version of PolyTrans for the Silicon Graphics UNIX platform:

• Create a directory on your SGI machine called "polytrans".
• Click here to download pt_sgi.tar.Z (2.1Mb) from the Okino WEB sever.
• Save this file to the directory you created above.
• Change to the "polytrans" directory on your machine.
• Execute 'uncompress pt_sgi.tar.Z'
• Execute 'tar xvof pt_sgi.tar'.
• Execute 'rm pt_sgi.tar'.
• Online man pages are available. 'doc_man/pt.man' describes the usage of PolyTrans.
